HELPING HANDS

It has happened to all of us.

And it will happen again.
A cancer diagnosis. A flooded house. The death of a loved one. The loss of a job. Your child involved in a tragic accident. The breakup of a relationship. Life is full of challenges, and they can be totally overwhelming.

In today’s 1st reading Moses and the Israelites were facing a tough challenge for the Amalek had come and waged war against them. (Exodus 17:8-13) Moses was trying to keep his hands raised during the battle for when he did Israel had the better of the fight, but when he let his hands rest, the opposition had the better of the fight. Moses of course grew weary, but Aaron and Hur stepped in to support him; one on one side, and one on the other, so that Moses’ hands stayed steady all they way to sunset.

This reading reminded me of a time in my life that I was weighed down in some serious struggles. When I didn’t have the strength to make it to the end of another day. During this time, family, friends, co-workers and neighbors were all “holding my hands” and helped steady my life.
If you have had people do this for you in your life, be sure to thank them, AND thank God for sending them to you. But mostly, be on the lookout for others. Others that are weary and in of need of support. Others who feel they are too weak to continue. Then go stand by their side. For we all need a helping hand.
