If you held a minute of silence for each of the 2 million killed in the Cambodian Genocide (also known as the Killing Fields) you would be silent for nearly 4 years.
If you held a minute of silence for the Holodomor – the man made famine perpetrated by the Soviet Regime in the first part of the 20th century that killed over 4.5 million Ukrainians – you would be silent for 8 ½ years.
If you held a minute of silence for the Nazi Ethnic Holocaust against 11 million Jews, Poles, Gypsies, Priests, Pastors, the disabled, homosexuals, Communists, Jehovah’s Witnesses and POW’s you would be silent for 21 years.
If you held a minute of silence for the European Colonization of the Americas that killed over 34 million Native Americans, then you would be silent for 65 years.
If you held a minute of silence for the 58 million babies aborted in the U.S. over the last 44 years then you probably would not live long enough to do it, for you would be silent for 110 years. One. Hundred. And. Ten. Years. And this one is not over, the numbers keep growing…
A minute of silence is a beautiful way to show respect for people who have died. But we must never be silent about the sanctity of life, the belief that ALL human life is valuable and should be treated with utmost respect. From the pre-born child in the womb to the Alzheimer elderly in nursing homes; from the mentally ill to the terminally ill. ALL life is sacred; Jews, Native Americans, Ukrainians and Cambodians. Gypsies, Homosexuals, the disabled and Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Take a minute to think about that.
And then spend every year of your life loving ALL your human family members here on earth.
